Grand Rapids Winery: A Century of History

It’s been over 100 years since the Robinette family first started their company, and they’ve come a long way. In fact, they’ve been the oldest family-owned winery in America for over 60 years. It’s a long way from their start as an apple orchard to today’s wine and cider business.

The Robinette Family is originally from France, and they immigrated to the United States of America in 1866. At that time, Grand Rapids had a population of just over 15,000 people and was considered quite small compared to other cities at the time. The family started their business with only $400 dollars each. They grew grapes on a plot of land that had been purchased by Joseph’s father, and they were the first people to have a commercial apple orchard in Grand Rapids.
